A bit more about me..

I am a parent, school governor and part time consultant. I started my working life at an inclusive nursery in Brighton and went on to work in a number of early years settings and schools before becoming a play worker in 2009. I worked for the charity Markfield, an inclusive community hub in London for 10 years as a play worker, family support worker and then manager, before becoming Deputy Director. Since having my daughter in 2017 I have worked part time as a voluntary sector consultant.

A bit more about my blog..

Play can be talked about in lots of different ways but I have specifically focused on four key areas – physical, creative, sensory and imaginative play and reflected on ways it can support child development.

You will find my most recent blog posts in the ‘latest Ideas’ section which are then archived into one of the four play area pages.

I started recording some of our play when my daughter ‘E’ was about 6 months old so the archived ideas start from this age. I suggest the activities are ideal for pre-school children up to 5 years old but I don’t think E’s age is a definitive indicator of when you could try an idea with your child and each activity can be adjusted to suit a slightly younger or older child.

I have not been able to represent all possibilities in this blog, but it is an overview of activities we have tried and enjoyed with a focus on ideas that do not cost lots of money.
